I've been seeing Mr. Hilts a lot lately. That's the guy who stalked me in highschool and made threats on my life. We were going out with the same girl at the same time. He was a pretty nasty guy. I don't need to go into details, to summarize, he later went to prison for other things that he did.
Anyways he's been coming to my work a lot lately. Every time I see him, he has the same facial expression. He looks surprised to see me. His mouth is agape (although maybe he's a mouth breather in general), his eyebrows raised and we lock eyes in an awkward kind of way.
I think he's become much more domesticated. Whenever I see him, he's accompanied by what I'm guessing is a girlfriend or wife. And together, they have a young child. He's also totally out of shape, so I'm guessing he doesn't frequent the gym or take Taekwondo anymore.
It got me thinking about the future. What's it gonna be like when I'm in my 50's and see these guys who I've had past rivalries with? I believe it would be a funny scene to watch old men swinging punches at eachother. I'd probably hurt myself just as badly as the other old fart if I landed with a solid hit.
Anyways, it's nothing like that today. I see Mr. Hilts and nod, smile, then carry on. No words are spoken, and for that, I'm glad. He does an uncertain nod in my direction and then looks away. You can almost see the gears going on behind his eyes, he's obviously thinking intensely about something. Maybe he's dredging up memories of the past. I have no idea.
