Got some time to blog so I'm gonna rip out the inner collective thoughts and splatter them onto the keyboard. Kinda like finger painting but with words. :) I could go on with what I have planned to do today, but let's talk about stuff that's more interesting to a broad spectrum of people. Let's rise to the heights of metaphors. (if it's possible)

So in school, we're learning a fair bit about peak oil, and I'm glad that such a subject is finally being taught in schools. You know what peak oil is right? If not, do a google search please. Anyways, I was eating breakfast at Smitties with someone today, pensively staring out the window and said, "I want peak oil to come." Why? Because when peak oil comes, it will change the world. It's not like there's going to be a flick of a switch. (at least I'm speculating so). From what I understand, it's going to be a more gradual change. Most noticeably, the price of oil will go up, and up, and up. Until many areas of industry will grind to a halt.

We're told that we'll invent our way out of it. I'm not really convinced. Because we have other issues going into this situation. We have our population, which is ever expanding. When we start talking about population control...well it's a taboo subject. Who wants to talk about population control? And when we do talk about it...who is going to have to be controlled?

Lifestyle affects this situation as well. SUV's and huge, spacious homes for single people is a waste of resources. Many people, especially the wealthy live in a way that can be described as conspicuous consumption.

Then you have to factor in our organization, our government, and our market. The last thing I'll mention in this PLOT, is technology, which can help us. But geothermal, wind, and solar energy aren't going to be enough.

Anyways, I look forward to a change. I think we could use one. One thing that I expect to happen, is that our markets will become more localized. If it costs too much money to transport our toilet seats from China to America, we'll have to start making toilet seats here in America. And the distance it takes to get from our home to our job will become way too costly to drive. So we'll start biking, maybe busing, or even just relocating. The farming industry will change. It will take a whole lot more manual work to get the same amount of food produced, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I'm thinking about purchasing a book, How to Grow More Vegetables: And Fruits, Nuts, Berries, Grains, and Other Crops Than You Ever Thought Possible on Less Land Than You Can Imagine.

Just something to keep on the side, because it is quite interesting. Anyways time's up. Maybe I didn't reach the heights of metaphors in this blog post, but hey, at least I wrote something!
