I can attest to the notion that doing well for yourself is fine and dandy, but the value in personal success dissipates without people in life to share it with. That's why I'm doing things differently in San Diego and instead of hiding in my room and playing video games, I'm focusing on exposing myself to new people and cultivating meaningful friendships with those who show they will be more than mere acquaintances. In western culture extroversion is rewarded but there's more to it than following the 'norm' - there's so many missed opportunities if you shield yourself in busyness, whether it's work or video games or facebook; life is not tried, it is merely survived unless you're willing to risk getting burned.
